“Strength and clarity in their voice and a relaxed, natural delivery. That’s the signature of a recording artist who has trained with vocal coach Judy Rodman. I work with recording artists staging their tours and coaching their live performance and believe me, there is a huge difference between singing a song and being a singer. Judy is that difference. It is more than her wealth of knowledge about how the voice works, it is her unique ability to reach inside an artist and bring out talent beyond technique.”
– Diane Kimbrough, Live Performance Coach
How the lessons work
Judy coaches singers and speakers both locally and globally through Zoom on computer, tablet, and smartphone. If you’re in a blackout area without internet, she can work with you over audio-only phone.

Starting with the first lesson, Judy will
- …assess your voice and begin immediately improving your most challenging areas of vocal weakness.
- …teach you how to overcome voice breaks and cracks and sing in a powerful blend without vocal cord strain, jaw or throat tension.
- … help you improve your pitch accuracy, articulation clarity, vocal control and breath balance.
- …show you how to expand your vocal range and enrich the sound of your voice,
- … Help you overcome stage fright, use acting technique to speak TO the “one heart” FOR the audience, and elicit emotional responses to your performance.
“Judy, thank you so much for your help with my voice! Our show was amazing. I had so much more confidence in my ability to sing!”
– Adia Victoria, Atlantic Records recording artist
- Judy will teach you the vocal techniques and exercises that will enable you to sing and speak so that your voice both feels AND sounds better, without the need to sacrifice vocal power for vocal health.
- She can give you special ‘ninja trick’ ways to help you conquer frustrating, puzzling vocal problems and limitations.
- She can teach you how to set yourself up for success in the recording studio.
- She can help you with song work… suggesting style and melodic options, best keys, and offering fixes for any pesky difficult note or section.
- She will prepare you for live stage or recording studio performance by warming you up before an important performance.
- You can also record the individualized vocal exercises she gives you to practice.
“Working with Judy is always a gentle, powerful revelation. I feel my voice grow and come alive more and more each session – more power, more presence, more connection, more mojo… There’s something magical that words can’t hold to express how beautifully I am deeply seen, honoured, and invited to come forth and shine as a performer by Judy’s loving, supportive presence and her profound understanding of the hows and why of singing.”

Speakers
Public speakers, tv and radio broadcasters, voice actors, ministers, business people and teachers come to Judy for speaking voice lessons, to maximize communication impact and minimize vocal fatigue and strain.
Judy was a lifesaver when I couldn’t figure out the reason behing my vocal loss! Within 2 minutes of our session, she had my issue figured out. Amazing! Update: Walmart loved the read! I feel like the old ‘me’ is coming back and I have YOU to thank!!
– Linda Bruno, ISDN Voiceover talent, NY
Judy’s Method “Power, Path & Performance”
Judy teaches proven techniques for breath, open throat, and communication skills. “Master all three areas, which affect each other,” Judy says, “and you maximize your vocal potential.”
- Power
Judy’s students learn to draw controlled vocal power from a feeling of compression centered in the pelvic floor. This is a much lower center than most people sing from, and keeps the singer from squeezing at the diaphragm level of the ribs, minimizing ‘overblowing’ the vocal cords, limited vocal range and lack of control of pitch and tone.
I just made the finals of American Idol! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help! You enhanced my breath control, fixed my shotgun blast and my posture.
– Casey Thrasher, finalist ‘American Idol’
- Path
Judy’s students learn the magic of “pulling” instead of “pushing” words. Pulling words from a hook-shaped “Vocal Path” (a concept developed by vocal coach Jeffrey Allen) results in a flexible, open throat, enabling great vocal control and register blend without vocal cracks and strain.
Your technique of pulling voice is the single most profound and useful thing I’ve ever learned. I thanked you on our CD credits.
– Salem Jones, lead singer/songwriter of rock band “One Soul Thrust“
- Performance
Judy’s physical and psychological approaches to performance coaching are informed by her own extensive performance experience. She knows first-hand what it takes to give unforgettable performances during national network TV appearances & interviews. Her live shows captured venues from clubs, auditoriums and county fairs to the stadium arenas. She knows (and teaches) how to authentically impact the audience from a small performance setting such as a house concert or “writer’s night”, to a stadium stage.
Judy has also developed very effective ways to alleviate excessive anxiety, yet preserve the spark of excitement in the performance. She helps the singer or speaker deliver with much more power and confidence by understanding performance as laser-focused communication skill. She teaches that getting the response from the ‘one heart’ should be the prime directive for the performance.
“Judy Rodman is one of America’s leading vocal trainers and an incredible artist and hit songwriter in her own right. Her extreme talent is only matched by her heart and the way she cares for the emerging artists and the superstars she shepherds.”
– Bernard Porter, Founder PCG Universal
“Our producer Dave Brainard says I sound so much better. What a life saver you are! Felt really confident at the showcase… probably the best I’ve ever done. Thank you!”
– Meagan Michaelis, recording artist with Michaelis Sisters
“Thank you so much for everything; you’ve helped tremendously with recording in the studio and I’m so much more comfortable on stage now!”
– Kelsie May, recording artist on ‘The Voice’
Helping Voices with Problems
Judy’s deep understanding of the pain and fear associated with vocal dysfunction also comes from her own personal experiences. In the middle of her career, she overcame a set of serious vocal challenges using what she learned from her short college classical training and several years of lessons with Nashville’s legendary voice teacher Gerald Arthur. You can learn about her vocal recovery journey here.
Judy has retrained singers with partial vocal cord paralysis, chronic raspiness, and with a history of nodes to sing with no strain or pain. She excels in correcting problems with pitch (even with those who’ve been told they were tone-deaf), breathing (even problems involving strange diaphragmatic spasms), diction (even in those who never had good diction), tone (enriching even the thinnest, strained voices) and a broad spectrum of other vocal challenges and impairments.
“Your techniques have allowed me not only to recover from the full left vocal chord paralysis (6 months) but with more range. My breathing did not recover fully but using your breath methods I get more use of the air I have. Singing better than before.”
– Jim Wilkes, attorney, singer
Styles Taught
Judy specializes in all contemporary vocal genres. When she is teaching style, Judy guides each student into his or her own heart and body. For instance, she has helped a highly trained classical singer develop an alternative rock sound; she helped a rap artist develop a great singing voice, resulting in a hit career and a rare double-deal with Christian and pop record labels. She helps her clients experiment with different styles, giving them feedback on what style is working best for their voices. She always coaches clients into their own uniqueness and authenticity, whatever style is chosen.
“Virginia was incredible. Best contemporary vocal performance I have ever had! Not kidding! I credit all of my muscle memory to what we do in lessons. Absolutely life-changing.”
– Mark Thress, classical singer/ classical vocal coach
“Years ago, I was a vocal instructor’s ultimate challenge. Not only would I eventually pursue public speaking as well as singing, but I was also battling a life-threatening eating disorder. I was lost in my disease and could not connect to my body or emotions. With Judy Rodman and her “Power, Path and Performance” vocal technique, I found my voice. Today I speak and sing nationwide – communicating from my heart and with my true voice.”
